Combined with an excellent choice of verb that not only joins together reality and imagination but also effectively indicates the speaker's uncle's hard work, the emotionally resonant juxtaposition of two symbolically rich word pictures ("sparks"/working to survive and "stars"/living to dream) lifts the poem up a notch.
