A Room of My Own: Onion Haiku

written in response to Werner Reichhold's commentary
on the use of "cliches" in the Japanese and Western literary traditions.

his story traced back layer upon layer peeling an onion
(for Günter Grass)

  1. The "cliched phrase," "peeling the onion," is one of Grass' thematic motifs explored in his writings, such as the "Onion Cellar" episode in Tin Drum and his"memoir" of the same name.

  2. Here is the link, http://dharmagates.org/peeling_onions.html, to Brenda Shoshanna's article about "Peeling Onions Day by Day," which is written from the perspective of Zen Buddhism.
