A Room of My Own: Between Life and Death

she lies pale
in the hospital bed
waiting
in dread and hope
for another's death

finally
a man's heart in her chest
and hers gone ...
alone at twilight
she listens to his/her heartbeat

    In the second tanka, the "/" in his/her is intended to provoke the reader's reflection on one's identity in relation to one's body.
