L1 sets the scene (the personal and intimate space) for the poem while Ls 2&3 indicate a communication breakdown (through the collocation of "failed attempts" and "private meaning" [not an "intersubjective understanding" of meaning]). And the plural form of "failed attempts" adds emotional weight to the poem.
