One Man's Maple Moon: Funeral Tanka by Carol Purington

English Original

That funeral
I can attend only in heart
this bouquet
of the marigolds she loved
they last so well

red lights, 5:1; January 2009

Carol Purington

  1. There is a simile effectively established between the visually attractive and symbolically rich flowers, "this bouquet of the marigolds/she loved," and the speaker's unbreakable relationship with the deceased friend.
