  1. L1 sets the scene while Claire's choice of a verb, "weighing," in L2 adds emotional weight and visual significance to the haiku.

    This fine haiku could be read as a sequel to Basho's famous crow haiku:

    a crow
    has settled on a bare branch -
    autumn evening.
