  1. The upper verse sketches a gloomy, lonely scene while the lower verse enhances the tone and mood of the tanka.

    Munira's heartfelt tanka reminds me of one of my own dealing with a similar issue:

    a red leaf
    zigzagging
    to the ground ...
    the sound
    of loneliness
