Mike Gallagher is an Irish poet who, although coming late to poetry and even later to the wonderful world of haiku, has had much more success than he ever expected in both forms and consistently makes the Top 100 list of haiku poets in Europe.

  1. Ls 1&2 set the theme and mood while unexpected yet visually and emotionally "unpleasant" L3 works well as a twist, enhancing the "hai" aspect of this wedding haiku.

    And it might be interesting to do a thematic comparison reading of the following haiku:

    wedding bells
    the seat next to mine
    empty yet again
