Bio Sketch

Aruna Rao is primarily trained in visual arts. Her love for anime led her to haiku and tanka which helped her give shape to moments. She has only recently started submitting to journals and her tanka have been published both online and in print.

  1. Structurally speaking, the tanka is framed by the thematically opposite lines with the middle line, "for your love," that functions as a pivot:

    treasure hunting

    all I find is fear
    mixed with plastic

    The shift, thematic and tonal, in the lower verse sparks the reader's emotions and reflection.
