One Man's Maple Moon: Surgeon’s Knife Tanka by Leslie Bamford

English Original

a surgeon’s knife
pierces your body --
this fierce November
wind cuts me
until I bleed

外科醫生的刀
刺穿你的身體 --
強勁的十一月風
不停地方剮我
直到我流血

  1. In this poignant tanka written in the style of Onihishigitei (the style of demon-quelling force), the analogical relationship between the two parts of the poem is effectively established through well-chosen phrases and strong imagery.
