Structured into two parts and five poetic phrases (ku), Marilyn's tanka effectively builds, line by line, to a thematically significant and emotionally powerful ending that reveals the theme of nature writing, which reminds me of the opening passages of Annie Dillard's classic work, "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek."
