Charlie Smith lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has been writing haiku since 1999 and occasionally gets to visit Japan.
L1 sets the scene while Ls 2&3 portray an intimate relationship; on the second reading, I think L1 carries symbolic and emotive significance, enhancing the relationship portrayed in L2&3.

The miracle of friendship can be spoken without words... hearing unspoken needs, recognizing secret dreams, understanding the silent things that only true friend know.
