rebuild their nest

Bio Sketch
H. Gene Murtha, a naturalist and poet, sponsored and judged the first haiku contest for the inner city children of Camden, NJ., for the Virgilio Group, of which he is a lifetime member. He is widely published for his work in haikai literature from the USA to Japan.
The upper verse establishes the thematic context of the poem while the lower verse enhances the tone and mood. The "layering feeling" is initiated by this tanka through good verb choices, "lean" and "rebuild," and the effective jux. of [our] "broken parts" and "their nest."
