  1. Jan's use of repetition,"single mother," in her sociohistorically conscious haiku is thematically significant and emotionally powerful, offering a gendered view of the role of women in a patriarchal society.

    Matriarchal societies in the USA are marginalized. I write from that ideal and realize it is a small representation in Western Cultures.
