wettest winter
year of mother’s death
I walk in the rain
feel the cold sting
of words left unsaid

母親去世的那一年冬天
是最潮濕的
走在雨中
我感受到沒有說出來話
冰冷的刺痛

Bio Sketch
Born
and raised in the kingdom of Bhutan. Sonam Chhoki is inspired by her
father, Sonam Gyamtsho, the architect of Bhutan's non-monastic modern
education. Her Japanese short form poetry has been published in journals
and anthologies in several countries. She is the current haibun and
haiku editor of the UHTS journal, cattails.
The upper verse sets the theme and seasonal context while the visually and emotionally poignant lower verse successfully enhances the tone and mood of the poem.
