Bio Sketch

Originally trained in science, Mark Gilbert is based in the UK and has been writing tanka for 12 years. Examples of his work may be found in the journals Skylark, Gogyoshi Monthly and Neon Graffiti: Tanka Poetry of Urban Life. He discovered Japanese poetry through the works of Jack Kerouac.

  1. The contrast between the peregrine (a crow-sized falcon renowned for its speed and a highly successful example of urban wildlife) resting and people working is thought-provoking and emotionally effective.
