Bio Sketch

Richard St. Clair (b.1946), in addition to an accomplished poet, is a recognized composer of modern classical music, performed widely. His poems -- not only haiku but also tanka and Western forms such as sonnet -- have appeared in many important venues. He is a Shin Buddhist in Massachusetts, USA.

  1. Ls 1&2 take a hard look at the "official" covid-19 confirmed cases/death counts report while visually and emotionally poignant and symbolically rich L3 enhances the tone and mood of this pandemic haiku.

    This heart-wrenching haiku reminds me of the following 11th entry of my coronavirus poetry diary:

    the cathedral
    silhouetted against gray sky
    an old man
    reads through ten full pages
    of obituaries
