Bio Sketch
Marion Clarke is from the east coast of Northern Ireland. Growing up surrounded by the scenic shores of Carlingford Lough, the Mourne Mountains and Kilbroney Forest Park, she was destined to write haiku.
L1 sets the seasonal context ("winter") and mood ("stroll,"walk in a "leisurely way") while unexpected yet thematically significant and multi-sensorily evocative Ls 2&3 add emotional weight and psychological depth to this nostalgic haiku. The significance of the aroma of "Gran's chicken soup" reminds me of that of the famous "madeleine episode" in the first section of Marcel Proust's novel , "Remembrance of Things Past:"
