Poetic Musings: Belonging Haiku by Michele Root-Bernstein

rock
                     rose
        rain

all the place I am
   belonging for

Wind Rose, 2021

Michele Root-Bernstein

Commentary: Visually concrete and symbolically rich Ls 1-3, "rock" (solid steadiness), "rose" (love/passion), and "rain" (source of life/renewal) are all the place where the speaker belongs as indicated in Ls 4&5, showing the speaker's personality traits.

This five-line poem works well as a character/persona haiku or tanka whose first three lines can work on their own because of their significance, visual and symbolic. For more examples, see "To the Lighthouse: Character/Persona Tanka
