Bio Sketch

Jan Benson was a Pushcart Prize nominated haiku poet. Her haiku were published in many of the world's leading haiku journals and magazines.   1. This is a fine example of atmospheric haiku, a subgenre of haiku with its focus on atmosphere, which intends to communicate first of all a feeling rather than to describe an event/experience observed.

    In the case of Jan's haiku, it's an "austere feeling" communicated through multi-sensorily and emotionally evocate imagery.

    And it might be interesting to do a thematic comparison reading of my haiku below about an event observed:

    spots of blood ...
    in snowlight one wolf moves
    the whole pack
