this autumn day
should I count
the leaves
on the ground
or those yet to fall

我應該計數
飄落在地上的樹葉
還是那些

  1. The opening line carries metaphoric significance, and the rhetorical question raised in Ls 2-5 subtly expresses an "existential sentiment of life," sparking the reader's emotions and reflection on two types of time-consciousness (human/linear and seasonal/cyclical) in relation to life and death.
