Bio Sketch

Maya Lyubenova is a photographer and writer. Her haiku have appeared in numerous leading haiku journals and won several awards, including WHA Master Haiga Artist (2009), First Prize in the 2nd Bulgarian Haiku Contest (2009), Third Prize in the 17th Kusamakura International Haiku Competition (2012), and Honorable Mention in the 2nd Genjuan International Haibun Contest (2013). Her book, Flecks of Blue, was published in 2010.

  1. The emotionally resonant juxtaposition of "b-flat [fading]" and "autumn wind" (the wind of the season of withering) and concrete imagery lift the poem up a notch.

    This poem works well as a mood haiku.
