Bio Sketch

H. Gene Murtha, a naturalist and poet, sponsored and judged the first haiku contest for the inner city children of Camden, NJ., for the Virgilio Group, of which he was a lifetime member. He was widely published for his work in haikai literature from the USA to Japan.

  1. Through the visually and emotionally poignant juxtaposition of dim light and a cold vibrator, a sense of loneliness is effectively conveyed in this haiku about female sexuality.

    What's left unsaid is at least as potent as what's written.

    And I think Gene's haiku could be read as a sequel to my poem below:

    winter rain
    I fall asleep
    holding myself
