Gregory Longenecker primarily writes short-form poetry and recently released his book, somewhere inside yesterday (Red Moon Press), whose title was taken from a haiku shortlisted for a 2018 Touchstone Award.

  1. Ls 1&2 set the context, seasonal and emotional, for the tanka while the speaker's gaze at (the symbolically rich image of )"wild" parrots/fly[ing] in flocks in Ls 3-5 reveals something hidden deep about the speaker's state of mood.

    An understated, seasonal mood tanka.
