Bio Sketch

H. Gene Murtha, a naturalist and poet, sponsored and judged the first haiku contest for the inner city children of Camden, NJ., for the Virgilio Group, of which he was a lifetime member. He was widely published for his work in haikai literature from the USA to Japan.

  1. L1 sets the context, seasonal and emotional, of this relationship haiku while the statement in Ls 2&3 might put the speaker's relationship with friends "on ice." On a second reading, L1 effectively carries symbolic and emotional significance.

    And my haiku below could be read as a sequel to Gene's:

    snow on snow
    the silence between us
    growing heavier
