  1. This is a poignantly effective "character haiku" about a father's "relationship" with his child/the Narrator. The modifier, "constant," shows the father's avoiding conversation is a "behavior pattern."

    What's left unsaid is at least as potent as what's said.

    And it might be interesting to do a thematic comparative reading of my "character/father" tanka below:

    he used to talk
    like a Russian novel ...
    now the silence
    between winter rains
    between Father and me
