Marion Alice Poirier is a lifetime resident of Boston, MA. She began writing haiku in 2001 and eventually began to teach haiku in workshops on Poetry Circle and Emerging Poets. She also write short poetry and have been published in on-line haiku and short poetry journals like Tinywords, Hedgerow and The Heron's Nest.
This seasonal mood haiku is effective in its atmosphere, created through a concrete and evocative juxtaposition of sensory impressions: sherry in L1 suggests taste and scent, humid dusk in L2 evokes touch and atmosphere, and cricket song in L3 introduces sound.

The ellipsis at the end of L1 is particularly effective. It creates a momentary pause, allowing the reader to linger over the act of sipping and giving the transition into the evening a leisurely, contemplative quality.
Overall, the haiku conveys a quiet, reflective summer mood. Rather than commenting explicitly on the evening, the speaker simply inhabits the moment, allowing the sensory details to evoke the experience.
