Adelaide B. Shaw lives in Milbrook, NY with her husband. She has published short fiction, children’s poetry and stories, haiku, tanka, haibun and haiga. She has served as an editor and as a contest judge for Japanese style poetry. This well-crafted tanka is structured into two parts: the natural image in the upper verse is portrayed in objective language, and the lower one reveals the speaker's self-reflection on the existential significance of its opening scene.
