Bio Sketch
Bozena Zernec was born in 1943 in Croatia and graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Zagreb. She worked as a textile and fashion designer. After retirement, she has been modeling and creating souvenirs, writing poetry and haiku, taking part in competitions. She has won a number of awards in Croatia and abroad.
The snow-covered merry-go-round is foregrounded in Ls 1&2 while Bozena's emotionally effective use of synaesthesia in L3 enhances the tone and mood of the poem, making the reader long for the children laughing in the summer time (not "the wind whistling" in the bleak midwinter)
