One Man's Maple Moon: Mockingbird Tanka by Hap Rochelle

English Original

a mockingbird
on my porch railing
singing his desire ...
Put a spell on you
lingered in the summer air

在我的門廊欄杆
高唱他的想望 ...
對你施法術

  1. Combined with a thematically and emotionally effective song title in L4, an implicit simile is established between the two parts of the poem. And the temporal shift in the lower verse adds emotional weight and psychological depth to the poem.

Note: "A Spell On You" Lyrics

I put a spell on you, because you're mine
You better stop the thing that you're doin'
I said, "Watch out, I ain't lyin'", yeah
I ain't gonna take none of your, foolin' around
I ain't gonna take none of your, puttin' me down
I put a spell on you because you're mine, all right

I put a spell on you, because you're mine

I ain't gonna take none of your, foolin' around
I ain't gonna take none of your, puttin' me down
I put a spell on you because you're mine, all right and I took it down
