the sound of the siren
is as red
as your lips closing over
the blind white
of the hard boiled egg

Bio Sketch
Larry
Kimmel is a US poet. He holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and
Pittsburgh University, and has worked at everything from steel mills to
libraries. Recent books are this hunger, tissue-thin, and shards and dust. He lives with his wife in the hills of Western Massachusetts.
Larry employs the rhetorical device, synaesthesia, to set the tone and mood, and his effective use of colors enhances the psychological impact of the poem.
ReplyDeleteThe colors in the poem take on metaphoric significance.
Note: for more info. about synaesthesia, see "To the Lighthouse: A Rhetorical Device, Synaesthesia," which can be accessed at http://neverendingstoryhaikutanka.blogspot.ca/2014/10/to-lighthouse-synaesthesia-transference.html
