Bio Sketch
Deb Koen has been a lifelong lover of nature and a haiku writer since 1998. Her inspiration comes from home in Rochester and the Finger Lakes of New York State, as well as road trips and world travels. Professionally, Deb consults, coaches and writes on career strategy and leadership development.
Juxtaposed with the sociopolitically and emotionally charged opening phrase, "border crossing," the multivalent closing word, "loaded," lifts the haiku out of the ordinary. And this poem reminds me of the following haiku written by Joan Prefontaine:
