Bio Sketch
A
A Marcoff is an Anglo-Russian poet who was born in Iran and has lived
in Africa, Iran, France and Japan, where he taught at a high school in
Tokyo. He has settled in England and lives near the beautiful River
Mole.
The contrast between the two parts of the poem (unbearable lightness/heaviness of the place of no memory vs spirit-lifting joy of "discovering: the natural world) is sociopolitically significant and emotionally effective.
ReplyDeleteNote: "The term 'place of memory' ('lieu de memoire') has been used in heritage protection with increased frequency. A 'place of memory' is a property or site vested with historical significance due to the nature of the historic events that occurred there."
