prairie wolf
digging a birthing bowl
how she scrapes
listens -- scrapes and scrapes --
her teen pregnancy

一隻草原野狼
挖一個分娩洞穴
牠是如何地用心刮土
傾聽 -- 刮土,持續地刮土 --
她的青少年懷孕

Bio Sketch
Marilyn
Fleming was born and raised on a farm in Wisconsin USA. She won her
first prize in the Hildegarde Janzen Oriental Forms Award in 1988.
Samples of her poetry can be read on her website.
The contrast between a prairie wolf carefully preparing its birthing place and a teenager's unintended/unplanned pregnancy is thematically significant and emotionally poignant. And Marilyn's use of repetition is visually and emotionally powerful, revealing that birth preparation is such hard labor.
