half asleep
I feel the bed bounce
as if our cat had jumped up ...
paw prints
on his box of ashes

Bio Sketch
Mary
Davila and her husband, Frank, live in Buffalo, NY. She relies on her
faith for everything, including writing. Mary began to explore haiku
and haiga in 2006. Her work has been published in numerous online
journals and in print. In 2014, tanka became her main focus. Her
website is www.petalsinthelight.com
Mary's tanka effectively builds, poetic phrase (ku)/line by poetic phrase (ku)/line, to an unexpected yet emotionally powerful ending that reveals the theme of loss and grief. And the contrasts between the two parts of the tanka are thematically and visually effective.
