A Room of My Own: I can't breathe Tanka

written in response to the death of George Floyd

riot police
in the gathering dark
a black boy
on his father's shoulders
holds a sign, I can't breathe

FYI: The tanka is a sequel to the following poem I wrote for Eric Garner

blindfolded Justice
holding her scales and sword
in the square
row upon row of black men
chanting I can't breathe
