Poetic Musings: Sunlit Pew Haiku by Jacquie Pearce

sunlit pew
I rest for a moment
in my childhood faith

NeverEnding Story, February 10, 2019

Jacquie Pearce

Commentary: Juxtaposed with "sunlit pew" and "childhood faith," Jacquie's haiku is tightly structured with an undercurrent of nostalgia for something innocent/pure and yet lost. And L2, "rest for a moment" effectively adds emotional weight and psychological depth to the haiku.

And my confessional haiku below could be read as a sequel/response poem to Jacquie's:

in and out
of the confessional
winter light

The Heron's Nest, XX, March 2018
a hole in the light: The Red Moon Anthology of English-Language Haiku 2018

Jacquie's Reply, February 21, 2019

I like the way the two haiku work together, focusing on the presence of light (rather than people) moving through the churches (and perhaps moving through memories).
