Bio Sketch
Maya
Lyubenova is a photographer and writer. Her haiku have appeared in
numerous leading haiku journals and won several awards, including WHA
Master Haiga Artist (2009), First Prize in the 2nd Bulgarian Haiku
Contest (2009), Third Prize in the 17th Kusamakura International Haiku
Competition (2012), and Honorable Mention in the 2nd Genjuan
International Haibun Contest (2013). Her book, Flecks of Blue, was published in 2010.
Juxtaposed with the image of an old farm, the barn and a cherry tree leaning on each other effectively conveys the wabi-sabi sentiment. And this cinematic haiku reads more like the poetic rendering of an establishing shot in a movie about the decay of rural life.
