Bio Sketch

Marilyn Fleming was born and raised on a farm in Wisconsin USA. She won her first prize in the Hildegarde Janzen Oriental Forms Award in 1988. Samples of her poetry can be read on her website

  1. The visually and emotionally resonant juxtaposition of "cloudburst" and "the animal" in me/"shaking itself" adds emotional weight and psychological depth to the poem. Within such a short space of seven words (12 syllables in total), Marilyn skillfully explores the connection between one's pre-social primal self and the fierceful force of nature.
