Bio Sketch

Marita Gargiulo found haiku at MIT in the 70’s while editing a poetry magazine. She was the guest editor for The Haiku Foundation, featuring “pan-artistic” haiku, and organized poetry events with her local arts commission and symphony orchestra. 1. The twist or surprise ending, "insomnia," makes an effective thematic change in the direction or expected outcome of this haiku, revealing something interesting about the N's personality/life (viewing emails when sleepless), and even about his/her relationship with others from this virtual world of the internet.

And on a second reading, L1 effectively carries symbolic/emotional significance.
