An avid practitioner of the Japanese short forms of poetry, Praniti Gulyani aspires to become a full time writer when she grows up. She has published a print collection of haiku, and an ebook of haibun, both of which have been reviewed by world renowned haiku poets.
Visually evocative L1, "distant" "shadow," which works well on two levels, literal and symbolic, sets the scene and mood of this middle-of-the-story haiku, while Ls 2&3 are layered with multiple meanings, inviting readers to cooperate in the construction of the larger narrative: the "why" of a story about the speaker's grandma "still" calling out her son's name.
