Bio Sketch

Marilyn Humbert lives in the Northern suburbs of Sydney NSW Australia. Her tanka and haiku appear in international and Australian journals, anthologies and online. Her free verse poems have been awarded prizes in competitions and some have been published.

  1. The simile established between family "secrets," L1 (creating a detrimental relationship among family members) and the wisteria, Ls 2&3 (all parts of which are poisonous) is thematically and visually resonant and symbolically rich.

    The "twisted vines" in L2 symbolize how poisonously entangled these secrets are, effectively adding emotional weight and psychological depth to the haiku.

    And it reminds me of one of my family senryu:

    the tangle
    of weeping willows
    family gossip
