Brian Zimmer wrote from the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri. His work had appeared in various international print and online journals. He took inspiration from a variety of sources, including the ancient Japanese poetic-diary (utanikki) and free-form, poetic "essay" (zuihitsu).
The implied contrast, Ls 1 -- first half of L5, between creepers and a person of agency, the speaker, is fresh and easily understood.
ReplyDeleteAnd the unexpected yet thematically significant and emotionally powerful concluding phrase reveals both the speaker's life situation, one that might be like creepers totally dependent on the support of others, such as the ground or some structure, to grow, and his/her will to solve the problem, ("and I do" [flee this place])
