Bio Sketch

  1. L 1 establishes the thematic context while the poignant image in Ls 2&3 effectively enhances the tone and mood of the poem. And Carl's well-chosen verb, "halves," not only provides a scent link, in Basho's sense of the phrase, to L1, "divorce" papers, but also adds emotional weight and psychological depth to the poem.
