Bio Sketch
Elizabeth Crocket has had haiku published in Mayfly, Modern Haiku, Shamrock, Asahi Network, Frogpond, NeverEnding Story and more. Her chapbook of haibun, Not Like Fred and Ginger, was shortlisted for the Touchstone Distinguished Book Award in 2014. Samples of Elizabeth's writing can be found on her website.
This is a fine example of ichibutsu shitate (single-object poem, "which [focuses] on a single topic and in which the hokku [flows] smoothly from start to finish, without the leap or gap found in the composition poem," "Traces of Dreams: Landscape, Cultural Memory, and the Poetry of Basho," p. 111). And the contrast between the dark and the moonlight is visually and symbolically effective.
